Facebook Inspired Icon Crochet Pattern
Materials
- Worsted weight gray yarn.
- Worsted weight blue yarn.
- Size J crochet hook
- Darning needle (for weaving in ends and attaching components)
Abbreviations
- CH = chain
- SC = single crochet
- HDC = half double crochet
- DC = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
Directions – Background Circle
R1: with gray yarn, ch 3, 10 HDC in 3rd ch from hook (10).
R2: 2 HDC in ea st (20).
R3: *1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around (30).
R4: *1HDC, 1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around (40).
R5: *1HDC, 1HDC, 1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around, sl st to join (50). Finish gray yarn.
R6: Join blue yarn at any point around gray circle. ch 1, sc in ea st, sl st to join. Finish. Weave in ends.
Directions – lowercase “f” components (2)
Component One – Main stem of “f”
R1: with blue yarn, ch 13.
R2: starting with the 2nd ch from hook, 1HDC in first 2 ch’s, 2HDC in next 2 ch’s, 1HDC in ea remaining 8 ch’s.
Finish leaving long tail.
Component Two – Cross bar (left and right sides) of “f”
R1: Join 2 foot long yarn to center back of stem with equal parts yarn on each side. Tie a double knot to the back side. Note: pretend like you’re starting to tie your shoe with two ends; slide it through a back loop on the back side of the stem; tie once and then twice.
R2: Using one strand hanging down, pull the yarn through to the cross bar level and ch 3.
R3: HDC in 2nd ch from hook and next ch.
R4: sl st to main stem to join one side of the cross bar to the stem.
R5: Using the other strand hanging down, repeat R2-4 for the other side of the cross bar.
Finish leaving a long tail.
Note: The cross bar will fill 2 HDC spaces on the stalk.
Finishing
Using the long tails, stitch the “f” shape to the background circle. Weave in ends.
